BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise Fire and Boise Police officers responded to a single-vehicle injury crash near the S. Owyhee St. and W. Malad St. intersection on Tuesday shortly after 10 p.m.
Life-saving care was provided to the injured adult female driver and the injured adult male passenger when first responders arrived. The vehicle's occupants were transported to local hospitals, where the female driver passed away from her injuries. The male passenger remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Evidence indicates the driver was traveling southbound on Owyhee St. at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and hit the median between Malad St. and Owyhee St. head-on.
The car then caught fire. Bystanders extricated the male passenger from the vehicle before the first responders arrived, and then Boise Firefighters extricated the female driver while extinguishing the fire.
Boise Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team and detectives responded to investigate the crash. S. Owyhee St. and W. Malad St. remain closed as they work to investigate the crash and clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. The Ada County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
