It’s a loaded word in Ghana that evokes fears of the occult, but a lot of our biggest politicians are involved with it, although few talk about it pubicly.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has outed himself as a member of the Freemasons organisation.
Afenyo Markin, in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, said that the organisation has Christian roots, and he believes it does not contradict his Catholicism.
“I am a mason and I have not been sanctioned by the Catholic Church.” He said.
“Freemasonry is a fraternal society that believes in God Almighty and follows certain principles that guide a man’s life and it does not run counter with my believes as a Catholic.”
The MP added that former President Kuffour was also a member of the group.
“President Kufuor is a Mason and a Catholic,” he said.
Last year, NPP lawyer and parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency, Philipp Addison, told Nana Aba Anamoah in a chat that he was also a member of the organisation.
