HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — An explosion occurred at a gas plant in Hickman County on Friday morning, officials confirmed.
The explosion took place at Kinder Morgan's Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) facility located in Nunnelly, the Hickman County sheriff adds. A one-mile evacuation was ordered, but has since been lifted.All surrounding roadways were reopened around 2:30 p.m.
Officials confirmed one injury has been reported due to a secondary measure and the victim has been transported due to the "medical condition." Officials say this injury occurred outside of the explosion itself.
Kinder Morgan originally reported that no injuries were sustained.
Damage appears to be limited to the gas plant solely, the Hickman County sheriff says. Officials confirm thatall personnel were evacuated and are accounted for.
Kinder Morgan says their facility experienced the explosion and a fireat one of the compressor buildings at a natural gas compressor station because of an equipment failure.
The local fire department, emergency medical services and sheriff are currently on the site, and the area has been isolated.Tennessee Highway Patrol and Tennessee TVA Law Enforcement are currently on the site of the explosion as well.
Nashville Fire Department and Franklin Fire Department are also on site among other crews actively assisting with the incident.
There is also an FAA air restriction at this time for all aircraft within a two-mile radius of the gas plant.
Area shelters are available for neighbors at the Fairfield Baptist Church and Nunnelly Community Center, Director for Hickman County Emergency ManagementAmanda Siegel confirms.
Siegel said employees were on site when the explosion occurred, and the outcome could have ended very different.
"This could've been completely worse, so we are very thankful that there has been no major injuries and of now there has been no major destruction," Siegal says.Kinder Morgan's TGP is about a 11,760-mile pipeline system that moves natural gas supplied from the Northeast to demand markets such as New York City, Boston, the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast and Mexico.
TGP Company, L.L.C. is a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P.The TGP has proposed the Northeast Energy Direct (NED) Project upgrade its current pipeline system in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut.
The Hickman County sheriff says the explosion occurred around 8 a.m. Kinder Morgan says an investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted.
The building where the actual explosion happened is closed until a structural engineer can conduct an evaluation. Environmental specialists were called to the scene to clean up any remaining hazards from the blast.

At approximately 8:20 a.m. CT today, Kinder Morgan experienced an explosion and fire at one of the compressor buildings at a natural gas compressor station as a result of an equipment failure near Centerville, Tennessee in Hickman County. The fire was extinguished, and Highway 48 has been isolated and closed as a precaution.
