Giant Halloween inflatables stolen from 91-year-old Lewiston couple

LEWISTON, Idaho (KLEW) Lewiston resident Bill Jacobs, 91, has been putting up Halloween decorations for about 10 years now just to make neighbors enjoy the holiday that much more. Well I just enjoy doing it, people stop and look at them and they like to see em, said Jacobs.

Lewiston resident Bill Jacobs, 91, has been putting up Halloween decorations for about 10 years now just to make neighbors enjoy the holiday that much more.

“Well I just enjoy doing it, people stop and look at them and they like to see ‘em,” said Jacobs.

Every Halloween, Jacobs’ Lewiston yard on 18th Avenue is an attraction for trick or treaters.

His larger-than-life inflatable yard decorations greet residents with their spooktacular splendor.

“We do the same thing at Thanksgiving,” he said. “We have turkeys and pumpkins and at Christmas we have a whole yard full of blowups at Christmas time. Great big ones.”

But earlier this week, real-life ghouls and goblins struck stealing not one but several inflatables the Jacobs have had for years.

“Well the main thing that was stolen was this 12-foot tall black cat that was tall enough to walk underneath it when it set up,” Jacobs said. “And I bought three brand new little cats to make it look like a family of cats and all four of those were stolen.”

We visited him the morning after they reported the crime to police.

“Oh yes, there was another great big pumpkin about four-foot in diameter another blown up pumpkin with a black cat on top of it,” said Jacobs.

But Jacobs won’t let these Halloween Grinch’s take his spirit away.

In fact, the day after he was back at work putting up more decorations. He hopes the people who did this have a change of heart.

“I’d just be thrilled to death if they bring them back,” said Jacobs. “I wouldn’t say a word to them, I would say thank you for bringing them back.”

Mr. Jacobs hopes the thieves don’t destroy the inflatables once Halloween is over.
