MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) - The day after Halloween, candy piles should total in the hundreds of pounds as area children turn in their excess amounts at Dr. Scott Grant's dental office in Meridian.
"So we exchange every pound of candy," Dr. Grant explained. "So a kid will bring in a pound of candy, we give them a dollar for every pound that they bring in. We also have a fun wheel that we'll spin and they can earn prizes, so it's a really fun exchange and it helps reduce the amounts of candy kids have at home."
Every piece of candy your kids donate means better health for them - and a chance to help local non-profits, including one overseas - Operation Gratitude.
"We love getting together with the kids, having them bring in their costumes, watching them write letters to the troops, and just have a great time with the kids and watching the joy that can come from giving," Dr. Grant said.
This year is Dr. Grant's sixth year hosting the candy buy-back program, that over the years, has collected nearly a ton of candy.
This year's goal: collect 500 pounds of candy and remind kids and parents alike... you're only as healthy as your mouth.
"If we don't have good oral health, that can really affect other major organ systems and it can cause illness," Dr. Grant said.
Dr. Grant will pay $1 for every pound of candy, with a limit of $5.
He's also offering a goody bag, including a toothbrush that lights up for the entire time you're supposed to be brushing - a great reference for any kid!
The candy buy-back program is Thursday, November 1st from 4 to 6 pm.
Dr. Grant's office is located at 2275 S. Eagle Road, Suite 140.
Dr. Grant is offering a prize for the single, largest candy contributor!
