(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Mattel and Clear Channel Entertainment have chosen the creative team who will bring original songs and an elaborate stage production of "Barbie Live in Fairytopia!" to life in approximately 80 cities across North America. Director Eric Schaeffer and Tony-nominated costume designer Gregg Barnes will lead the production team for the Barbie Brand's first-ever, touring live theatrical stage show.
"Mattel Entertainment is thrilled to announce the incredibly talented and multi award-winning creative team for 'Barbie Live in Fairytopia!'" said Richard Dickson, senior vice president of Global Consumer Marketing and Entertainment. "Along with Clear Channel Entertainment, we have truly assembled a Broadway-caliber, all-star line-up of behind-the-scenes masters that will transport audiences to the magical land of Fairytopia, where glittery fairies and magical creatures will delight hearts and create new life-long memories for Barbie fans of all ages."
Inspired by the highly successful March 2005 direct-to-video movie "Barbie Fairytopia," the magical theatrical production will enchant family audiences with beautiful costumes, exquisite backdrops and special effects — including awe-inspiring flying fairies. An original musical score will heighten the excitement and fantasy. "Barbie Live in Fairytopia!" builds on the success of Barbie Entertainment's six chart-topping Barbie films and casts Barbie as Elina in a magical land of enchanting adventures.
"It's great to be working on this new production that will introduce Barbie to the theatrical stage," said Schaeffer. "It promises to bring Fairytopia to life in an exciting three-dimensional production that will be perfect for families across America and beyond. We've assembled a terrific creative team that promises to make a lasting impression for the long-awaited theatrical debut of Barbie."
"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to design for Barbie," said Barnes. "She is a fashion phenomenon. It is a great honor to bring to life the fantasy and grandeur that she inspires among all ages."
