Earlier this week, Middle Police put out a warning of a possible impersonation of an officer.

But now authorities in Middleton say it was an actual officer.

The police department said someone reported a strange traffic stop where they were pulled over by someone in a Jeep with small flashing red, white and blue LED lights inside the top right corner of the windshield.

The man didn't identify himself or ask for the driver's information, Middleton PD said at the time. But now Middleton Police says it was indeed an actual officer in an unmarked police vehicle from a neighboring police agency.

"We would like to put our citizens at ease," police said. "The officer advised they were wearing a shirt with the agency badge and last name on it and carrying their department-issued service weapon."

Middleton PD did not say which police force the officer belonged with but said the incident was discussed with the agency head.
